Liftinstituut: leading with lift knowledge

Liftinstituut is one of Europe’s leading certification organizations for lifts, escalator systems, sub-systems and components. We have specialized in this field for over 80 years and have more than 15 years’ experience in performance-based safety. What’s more, we have a long track record certifying projects for major companies like Kone, ThyssenKrupp, Schindler, Mitsubishi and Otis.

As a Notified Body (NoBo), we certify lifts and safety components according to EU safety codes and standards for lifts and related equipment. As an Accredited Elevator/Escalator Certification Organization (AECO), we certify elevators, escalators and components for the North American market according to code ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7. We also regularly perform lift inspections all over the world.

Based in the Netherlands, Liftinstituut shares its knowledge of installations for vertical transport of people and goods throughout the world. Installations like elevators, escalators and window cleaning equipment. We are objective, independent and very professional.

First European Notified Body

Liftinstituut was the first European certification organization to be appointed as a Notified Body (Nobo) for the Lift Directive. In recent years, we have carried out assignments for large international lift manufacturers giving us a great deal of knowledge and experience. As a lift manufacturer or installer, you too can benefit from our expertise.

Officially accredited by ANSI as AECO for North America

In March 2009, the Liftinstituut was officially appointed as an Accredited Elevator/Escalator Certification Organization (AECO) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). As a result, Liftinstituut is qualified to certify elevators, escalators and components for the North American market according to code ASME A17.7/CSA B44.7.

As in Europe, manufacturers can now deviate from ASME A17.1/CSA B44 as long as the product is completely safe, supported by a risk analysis and assessed by an AECO. This development benefits manufacturers by encouraging innovation. For example, you can now use plastic buffers instead of steel springs and hydraulic buffers as described in A17.1. As a result, buffers can be much more compact. The elevator well can also be shallower. What’s more, plastic buffers don’t rust.
